Our 2010 Silhouette is vibrant gold in color, with complex aromas of ripe peach, apricot, tangerine, toasted almond pastry, wet stone, vanilla and baking spices (nutmeg, clove, cinnamon). On the palate the wine is very rich with layers of fruit all supported by bright natural acid. The finish is over a minute long with a creamy texture, and notes of spice and subtle toast.
The 2010 harvest in the Napa Valley was a difficult yet rewarding vintage with the coolest summer since 1972 continuing into the fall, resulting in some of the latest picking dates in memory. The extended hang time did increase complexity in the grapes, which were picked at moderate to slightly lower sugar levels. The results were outstanding white wines with bright acidity and wonderful aromatics, and red wines with dense color, concentration, and balance, all at moderate alcohol levels.
Hand sorted and whole cluster pressed; 100% fermented in French Oak Barrels; Native yeast and malolactic fermentation; Aged 18 months sur lie in French oak (75% new); Bottled unfiltered and unfiltered
Silhouette is Merryvale’s limited production, top white wine. Each vintage our very best Chardonnay fruit goes into Silhouette, and in 2010 the wine is comprised entirely of grapes grown on our Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyard in Carneros. The grapes for Silhouette were handpicked at peak ripeness, and hand sorted before a gentle whole cluster pressing. After long, cool native primary and malolactic fermentations with extended lees contact, the wine was aged for 18 months in 75% new, tight grained French oak barrels. Silhouette was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
